Every time we fly, someone takes care of passengers’ bags, their tickets, the embarking procedure (calling the names of those who arrive late at the gate), of counting every single bag (hand, cabin and hold), of counting every person on any given flight so they know the exact number of those on board (including pilots and crew), of pushing back aircraft from their parking positions so passengers can leave on time if conditions allow the operation to do so, and much more. Above all, the real goal of airline handling is to optimize turn arounds, and handle passengers and goods within time constraints and safety parameters.
